The School of Irish Archaeology

The School of Irish Archaeology is proud to introduce the next step in the evolution of creative and hands-on learning for our younger generations. Our curriculum-based workshops offer children & teens an opportunity to fully understand the fascinating subject of archaeology and its profession. Our approach considers key aspects of the Primary SESE & Junior Cycle Curriculum to enable children to explore, investigate and develop an understanding of local and wider environments and to enable students to develop the necessary conceptual understanding, disciplinary skills and subject knowledge to investigate the actions of people in the past. Our workshops aim to develop basic skills as an historian through a knowledge and understanding of people, events and developments in the past. Participants work together in small class groups and develop critical thinking skills in a fun and friendly environment. Our workshops use a practical hands-on and scientific approach using various methods to broaden the students' awareness in the field of archaeology in a dynamic way. We feel our workshops are a perfect introduction to this cross-disciplinary practice and with our style of hands-on and active learning we help participants assimilate the knowledge they have been acquiring in school to a real-life practice and its relevance in todays world.
