Shannon Dolphin and Wildlife

The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group are based in Kilrush, Co. Clare, due to the resident group of bottlenose dolphins present in the Shannon Estuary year round. Because this population are unique to the Shannon and its adjacent waters, it provides an excellent learning opportunity for schools to visit the area, possibly observe the animals and learn all about them and other whalebone specimens, such as fully articulated skeletons and an impressive array of bones from rare and elusive whales stranded on the Irish coastline that is housed in the centre. Schools will also have access to a wide range of activities and resources that the children can take home to continue their exploration into the ocean. Opening times. Seven days a week, 10 - 5 from June to August. To organise a school tour outside these dates, please email education@iwdg.ie
