JFK Memorial Park & Arboretum

Dedicated to the memory of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, President of the United States from 1960 to 1963, the Arboretum is a plant collection of international standing. It covers 252 hectares (623 acres) on the southern slopes and summit of Slievecoiltia. It contains 4,500 types of trees and shrubs from all temperate regions of the world, planted in botanical sequence. Following the launch of the new permanent Orienteering Course at the Park & Arboretum four maps, Short (1.8km), Medium (2.4km), Long (3.5km) and a 'Wheel O' Course (suitable for participants with mobility issues) (4km) distances, are now available FREE to download. The orienteering course is ideal for schools. What an amazing way to explore the flora and fauna of the Park & Arboretum whilst enjoying the exercise in beautiful surroundings. As this site is managed by the OPW, school tour visits are permitted free of charge provided certain conditions are met.
