Fota Arboretum and Gardens

Fotas internationally recognized arboretum and gardens are open all year round and are a haven for relaxation and enjoyment. The delightful and tranquil gardens at Fota were laid out by James Hugh Smith-Barry in the first half of the 19th century and are a must-see when visiting Fota including the palm walk, orangery, and atmospheric Victorian fernery. School groups are welcomed year round. In the present world of a changing climate, we are keen to develop a greater awareness among schools of the great educational resource we have here in Fota. Young people can be exposed to a global selection of plants for almost all parts of the world. Working with us we're sure we can create an outing for students, which may increase their awareness and understanding of the natural world. (There is no admission charge to Fota Arboretum & Gardens. Managed by OPW and independent of all other enterprises on the island i.e. Fota House, Fota Wildlife Park, etc.)
