Céide Fields

The remarkable neolithic site at Ceide Fields in County Mayo, Ireland, contains the oldest known stone-walled fields in the world dating back nearly 6,000 years. The Ceide Fields had stone-walled fields, a farming community and a countryside of homes scattered throughout the landscape. The fields are covered by blanket bog and the site is located on the edge of a clif edge over 100m high. As this site is managed by the OPW, school tour visits are permitted free of charge provided certain conditions are met.
