Learning becomes interactive when the students take part in the handling session at the National Reptile Zoo for school tours. Information is tailored to suit the age group of the students and they are encouraged to ask questions as they embark on a inquiry based tour of the zoo, learning about everything from what the animals eat to how they shed their skin and how they catch their prey to their defense mechanisms and more. There is also a Zoo To You option which involves a zookeeper coming to your school with a range of animals from snakes to scorpions to baby tortoise.

ZooZoom Tour: This is a virtual tour option hosted via Zoom where students can log in and chat with a zookeeper. The zookeeper will also do a show and tell of a range of different animals. This is then followed by a virtual tour of our zoo. At the end we will feed an animal for all to see if they so wish. This is a Science Foundation Ireland accredited activity that counts towards the DPSM awards for schools taking part in STEM. Adaptable for all ages. 1.5 hours.

ZooZoom Special: Conversations in Conservation - This a specialist 3 part conservation workshop similar to our ZooZoom option. It involves a show and tell of our more endangered animals, followed by a project assignment guided by our resource packs that examines the "hows" and "whys" of conserving different species. The 3rd part is a follow up Zoom to discuss what students found in their projects and the option to have your projects displayed in our zoo.

The Gerry Martin Special: This is an upcoming workshop we will be launching before the new year. We will be working with leading conservationist Gerry Martin who will be "Zoomed" in from India to show us how we apply conservation strategies in the wild as well as some amazing wild animals that he works with. A great opportunity to see the beautiful landscape of India, the amazing animals being protected there and chat with an iconic conservationist from the comfort of your classroom.
